***Most of the people, esp. in India, believe in superstitions while the eclipse occurs. They avoid taking food, bath and also washing clothes. Pregnant women are kept under heavy restrictions during this time. These beliefs are a part of Astrology as most of the people believe that their stars might face some trouble if they do continue their activities.

People has to change..
Hi Lady...Thanks for the info. I love eclipses. I also read your collection of haiku...Very nice. you have inspired me to try to write them...~S~
Its always advisable to study the reasons behind this. One must remember that every natural phenomenon leaves some impact in the universe. So, eclipse do have some impact on earth especially when it comes to the earth's electromagnetic field and subsequently effects everything on earth as well, which includes mankind. Plants and animals may have not develop as much as us, so their living and expansion are generally guided by their natural instincts. Science can't deny the fact that eclipse do have some impact on plants and animals. The culture that gives the world ayurveda, yoga, gita and many more, surely have had its own reason for this so-called superstitious belief. We must understand that any drastic changes to the earth's electromagnetic field have direct impact on mankind, though one may not realize it at the grossest level of existence. There may be changes at hormonal level, mental strength, impacts on digestive system, blood circulation etc etc. If one believe in science, one must also learn not to deny anything as superstitious, as science encourages experiments, research and systematic deduction of a process before arriving at the conclusion, which most of the time in science known as theory. Religion and culture too attempted to do the same, but lack of understanding and proper tools to experiment restricted their conclusion to a few words of wisdom. And, over the time all that bundled as superstitions. We can't deny the existence of superstitions among the lines of beliefs and religions, but what I am trying to say is, do some research prior to labeling anything as superstitions. A theory can be superstitious as well, but most of us accepts and brags about it positively, most of the time, until science one day say that theory is wrong!
Few decades ago science denied the benefits of meditation and chanting of Om or any other divine names, and called it placebo effects. Nowadays meditation is widely accepted by science and some scientists even label it by many other names. The repetition of OM and any other traditional names linking things of Indian, are replaced with the repetition of the word ONE, LOVE etc. All these are done as part of many therapeutic practices of which the Hindus/Indians were one time well versed at it. We need time to validate experience and experiments, just like it took decades before science understand the benefits of meditation. So, why we should not eat? This too may not be within the grasps of science yet. Perhaps time will tell, perhaps not. The onus is on us to find out. Of course the options are always with us to eat or not to eat, but not to deny anything without investigation. Human transformation must take place by means of discrimination and experience, but not by hasty reactions.
Denial without proper discrimination only serves as a chain reaction can be fatal and deprive us many positive changes in life. Though, the mystery of creation is obscured from us, we must not forget that everything in the universe is happening at a very meticulous level, which is governed by many sets of natural laws. Science call it law of physics, others call it law of creation. Sorry for taking up your space.
well i agree with ur points .i don deny the fact of scientific effects like the growth of bacteria increases during the eclipse so we shudn eat. but many people are unaware of these facts n just hav a blind belief that we should not eat but why not eat, no one can say. some people take a bath after the eclipse and chant some mantras, not for meditation but some kind of prayer.
. I also read your collection of haiku.
